If you’re new to introducing probiotic rich foods into your diet, coconut yoghurt is a great place to start.
Making your own coconut yoghurt is the best way to add in the right living probiotics for you. This is because the beneficial strains depend on what living probiotic you add to it.
This also makes coconut yoghurt extremely versatile as you can add the bacteria that specific to your needs. To find out which bacteria will nurture your gut health most you can get your gut bacteria tested.
“Coconut yoghurt is extremely versatile as you can add the bacteria that specific to your needs.”
In our recipe we have used the BePure Two Probiotic. This contains 18 strains of beneficial bacteria and a minimum of 30 billion viable bacteria per serving. The strains found in BePure Two Probiotic include those from the Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium families. At the BePure Clinic, these are the strains we see people needing these most.
BePure Coconut Yoghurt
Ingredients
1/2 cup fresh young coconut water.
1 cup of a fresh young coconut flesh (you might need 2 coconuts for this).
3 capsules of probiotics, we used BePure Two Probiotic
Note: You can find young fresh green coconuts at your local supermarket.
Instructions
- Open the coconut carefully and pour coconut water into your blender.
- Scoop out the coconut flesh and place in blender.
- Blend water and coconut flesh together until smooth and creamy.
- Place in a glass jar and add probiotics.
- Seal tight and place in a warm place to ferment. In summer months you should be fine leaving it at room temperature and in cooler months the hot water cupboard works a treat.
- Leave for 12-24 hours or until it has become thick. Once ready place in the fridge to keep.
- Your coconut yoghurt will keep for 3-5 days.
Note: If you notice pink colouring in your yoghurt this is a sign it has gone bad!
